China assures to assist Sri Lanka to combat Coronavirus

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –China has assured to share its expertise on fighting the coronavirus with Sri Lanka and to provide the necessary assistance to combat the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

China’s Acting Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hu Wei gave the assurance when he met Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi for an in-depth discussion on the joint fight of China and Sri Lanka against the new coronavirus.

Hu Wei briefed the Minister on the current situation of China’s domestic epidemic prevention and control continuing to show signs of improvement.

He thanked the Sri Lankan leaders, the Health Department, and all sectors of the society for their valuable support to China and expressed his willingness to continue to strengthen cooperation with Sri Lanka and support each other to fight the epidemic.

The Acting ambassador presented the Minister with the information on China’s current epidemic-related diagnosis, treatment and prevention and control programs.

Hu Wei noting that the Health Minister made a special trip to discharge Chinese female patient when she recovered from the COVID-19 infection, said the moment will surely be written into the annals of friendship between China and Sri Lanka.

Minister Wanniarachchi said that the friendship between Sri Lanka and China has a long history and China is a true friend.

“Like all Sri Lankan people, I am glad to see that China’s epidemic prevention and control situation has been effectively controlled,” she said.

The Minister noted that at present, the epidemic is spreading at multiple points around the world, and the first confirmed case in the country has also occurred in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan side thanked China for sharing its valuable experience and providing strong support in a timely manner, and looked forward to continuing to fight side by side with China to jointly defeat the epidemic.
