(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – foreign vessel, which was seized by the Sri Lanka Navy off the Southern Coast on charges of smuggling narcotics worth over Rs.10 billion, was brought to the Dickovita Fisheries Harbour yesterday(01).
The Navy said the vessel was seized on 28 March during a surveillance conducted by the offshore patrol vessel SLNS Sayura.
A large haul of narcotics, consisting 500kg of ICE, 500kg of cocaine, 200 packets of Babul and 100g of narcotic pills, were seized from the vessel, the Navy said.
According to the Navy, this is the third foreign vessel to be seized in Sri Lankan waters on charges of smuggling narcotics within the last 2 months.
The Navy added that the vessel will be transported to the Dickovita Fisheries Harbour for further inspection.
