(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the case filed against former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks to be heard on October 23.
The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks in 2019 despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and charged of criminal negligence and murder.
When the case was taken up yesterday (17), Deputy Solicitor General of the Government Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the preliminary investigation with regard to the incident has been concluded.
Accordingly, the court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to submit a progress report on the investigations when the case is taken up again on October 23.
Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara have been released on bail on the orders of the High Court.
