Over 12,000 workers brought back – Minister

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Around 12,000 migrant workers have returned to the country upto yesterday (21), Industrial Export, Investment Promotion and Civil Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He said last Sunday (14) alone 410 migrant workers, had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by five aircraft.

These migrant workers had arrived from 21 countries and over 2,000 passengers had undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests at the airport and later sent for quarantine.

Around 255 Lankans from the Maldives and another 50 had arrived from Australia to the country.

The government is expected to bring back all those stranded by the end of July.
