(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman has arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning to provide a statement.
The former LTTE leader turned politician was asked to appear before the CID on Tuesday (23) in connection with a controversial statement he made in Ampara recently.
However he had informed the CID through his attorney that he was unable to appear as he was ill.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Monday (22) ordered the Criminal Investigations Department to conduct an immediate inquiry into the statement made by the onetime deputy minister of the previous Rajapaksa government after he publicly boasted about killing several thousand Sri Lankan soldiers when he was an LTTE commander during the civil war.
Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne earlier said two teams were dispatched to Ampara and Batticaloa in order to conduct investigations.
Addressing a gathering in the North, Muralitharan, the Leader of the Tamil United Freedom Front, has said that he is more dangerous than the coronavirus as he has killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night in Elephant Pass.
Karuna Amman’s statement drew fire from both ruling and opposition political parties and calls on authorities to arrest and prosecute the former LTTE leader as he had admitted to killing of military personnel.
