(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Grade 1 and 2 classes and all pre-schools in the country that were closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic will re-open on August 10th, the Education Ministry announced.
The Education Ministry said the Cabinet of Ministers today discussed at length the issue of reopening educational institutions and pre-schools as the COVID-19 situation is under control.
Accordingly, in accordance with the guidance of the Director General of Health Services, it has been decided to open schools for first and second grade students and pre-schools island-wide on Monday 10th August.
The President has instructed the Ministry of Education, Education ministries of Provincial Councils of and all local authorities to closely monitor the disinfection process of all schools in the island.
Accordingly, all premises must be disinfected before the re-opening, the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, residencies for second year teacher trainees (2017/2019 batch) of all National Colleges of Education will commence from July 7th to July 31st.
The Ministry of Education has taken steps to commence academic activities for the first and second year teachers of all Teacher Colleges from July 07.
The third year Teacher trainees of National Colleges of Education (2016/2018 team) will be assigned to schools to complete their internship from 7th July to 31st July.
Further, action will be taken to attach second year Teachers trainees (2017/2019 Team) of the National Colleges of Education for Internship on 10th August.
Residential studies of the first year Teachers (2018/2020 Team) of the National Colleges of Education will commence on 17th August.
