(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 186 inmates of the Welikada Prison were sent to quarantine at another quarantine center in Punani last night.
The Army Commander said that the detainees are being quarantined by the prison officials under the supervision of the Army.
Seven officers of the Welikada Prison have also been sent for quarantine.
The new COVID-19 patient identified yesterday was an inmate transferred to the Welikada Prison from the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in East Kandakadu for those addicted to drugs and controlled substance.
Therefore, all those at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center have been subjected to PCR tests since last night, Lieutenant General Silva said.
Meanwhile, 310 inmates of the Welikada Prison have been subjected to the PCR tests yesterday (07), the Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said. The results of 210 inmates have been released and none of them are positive for the COVID-19 virus, he added.
