(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that a national program will be prepared to rehabilitate all tanks in the country.
Failure to properly renovate the tanks and irrigation systems in the country for a long time is a major issue raised by the people in all the districts that the President visited recently. It has had a devastating effect on agriculture and people’s lives, the President has noted.
The President made this observation while participating in a public meeting held at the Kuliyapitiya Co-operative Stadium yesterday to support the victory of the candidates contesting the forthcoming general elections from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
As a solution to the issue, the President has said that all tanks in the country will be rehabilitated according to a proper standardized plan.
Many tanks in the country have been covered with invasive aquatic weeds such as water hyacinth (Japan Jabara), Salvenia etc. These tanks have been unable to properly retain their water capacity.
