(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –In continuation of e-ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation) webinars conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs, India for ITEC partner countries, a webinar on “Policing During Pandemic Times” was organized by Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), New Delhi on 10-11 August 2020. A total of 97 participants from 25 countries participated in the webinar. Ten police officials from Sri Lanka including Mr. V.G.D. Ayasa Karunaratne, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ampara; Mr. A.L.U.N. Priyantha Liyanage, SSP; and Mr. K.T. Nimila De Silva, ASP participated in the webinar.
Hon. Shri. G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India inaugurated the two day webinar. Senior retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officials addressed the participants on various topics related to policing including humane policing, policing for women and children, community outreach, policing during stressful times and leveraging intelligence for effective policing.

Gunawardena, Chief of Staff, Sri Lanka Army participated in the “COVID-19 – Good Governance Practices in a Pandemic”, organized on 18-19 June 2020 at the National Centre for Good Governance, Mussoorie and shared Sri Lanka’s experience and best practices for controlling the pandemic
