Sri Lankan among those killed in Abu Dhabi explosion

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – A Sri Lankan migrant worker was among the three killed in Monday’s explosions in the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said.

According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, the Sri Lankan national identified as a 28-year-old Samith Rangana from Weligama, Matara has died in the blast at the KFC restaurant in central Abu Dhabi on Monday (August 31).

Abu Dhabi’s government media office said two people were killed in an explosion in a restaurant in the capital caused by a gas connection”

“According to on-site investigations, the incident was caused by a misalignment in the gas container fittings following refueling,” it said.

Earlier Monday, in neighboring Dubai, one person was killed in another explosion blast due to a gas leak, according to media reports.
