(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana stated that necessary measures to uplift the coconut industry in the country will be expedited. The Minister said this while participating in the World Coconut Day celebrations.
Addressing the World Coconut Day celebrations held at the Sri Lanka Coconut Research Institute, Lunuwila, Wennappuwa Tuesday, (September 02), Minister Pathirana said the government has lined up many measures to promote and boost the productivity of tea, rubber, coconut and other exports crops.
The government has identified two major actions to increase the productivity of coconut in the future. The government has already prepared the background to introduce loan proposals in the next budget for water supply projects for coconut cultivation and a more streamlined fertilizer supply program.
State Minister Arundika Fernando and several others were present at the event which was presided over by Minister Ramesh Pathirana.
At the event, the latest coconut cultivar, CRISL T20, was introduced and the Innovation Training Building was inaugurated with the participation of the Ministers.
Commemorative plaques were presented to the exporters who earned the most from the export of coconut based products in 2019.
