(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The government has decided to control the price of coconut in the future and set maximum retail price of a coconut at 70 rupees.
State Minister of Coconut, Kitul, Palm and Rubber Cultivation Promotion and Allied Industrial Products Production and Export Diversification Arundika Fernando stated this at a media briefing held at his Ministry yesterday (22).
The State Minister said action will be taken in the future through the Consumer Affairs Authority to enforce the law against those who do not sell coconuts at the prices set by the government and plans are afoot to stop coconut auctions.
Minister Fernando further stated that during a recent discussion held with the coconut industry yesterday, they agreed to the government’s controlling the price of coconut.
Minister Arundika Fernando further stated that the government plans to work with the private sector in the future to promote the production of liquid coconut milk.
