(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated in Parliament yesterday (19) that a decision will be taken within three weeks after seeking legal advice on the seat of imprisoned parliament rain Ranjan Ramanayake.
The Speaker said that a decision could not be made without a study in this regard and that it would take time to seek legal advice under the current corona epidemic situation. Therefore, a period of three weeks is required to express an opinion in this regard, the Speaker said.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena was responding to a question raised by Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa as to why Ranjan Ramanayake had not been called to parliament when he has not lost his seat.
Speaking further Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said MP Premalal Jayasekara was summoned to Parliament after a special study.
“It was done after careful research and advice. We did not summon him to Parliament on the 4th. Give some time to make a decision about Ranjan Ramanayake. We will take legal advice and give a decision. This is not an easy task due to the current Covid situation. Therefore, give three weeks to give a decision on this,” he said.
