Coronavirus update: 892 new COVID-19 cases identified Thursday, total rises to 61,586

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 892 new COVID-19 cases were reported so far on Thursday.

Among the positive cases identified Thursday, 852 are associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 40 are arrivals from overseas including 33 from the United Arab Emirates and 07 from Oman.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report at 10:10 pm Thursday, a total of 61,586 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 6,854 infected patients are being treated at hospitals. Another 688 individuals are currently suspected of infection and hospitalized.

Sri Lanka reported seven deaths Thursday raising the total to 297 and 54,435 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 1,659,725 PCR tests have been conducted to detect COVID-19 infected persons from February 18 to January 27 according to the Health Promotion Bureau.
