(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Police have launched a search operation in the Kelani River to find the head of a murdered woman whose decapitated body was found in a traveling bag left at the Dam Street in Pettah.
The search operation was launched at around 4 pm yesterday (04) on suspicion that the sub inspector involved in the murder had her head in the shoulder bag he was carrying and may have thrown the bag into the river before he returned home and committed suicide.
The lodge where the couple was staying was located near the Kelani River on the Hanwella-Colombo road, the police said.
The search operation will be conducted from Modara where the Kelani River joins the sea to Hanwella.
Measures have been taken to test the DNA of the victim and her relatives on Wednesday to accurately identify the body found in the traveling bag since her head is missing. The post mortem examination will be conducted after the DNA results confirm the identity, the Police Media Spokesman said.
The Dam Street Police and the Badalkumbura Police are conducting further investigations.
