(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris said that the schools in the Western Province will commence on Monday, March 15 only for Grade 05, Grade 11 and Grade 13 and for other classes the schools will reopen on April 19 after the April holidays.
The Minister said this while participating in a press conference held at the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.
“Today we have received the written recommendation of the Director General of Health Services. Accordingly, instructions have been received that schools in the Western Province should be reopened only for grades 5, 11 and 13 next Monday, March 15. Classes in the other grades will begin after the April holidays. Therefore, schools for other grades will commence on April 19,” the Minister announced.
He said the students have already been admitted to schools for grade 1 classes but those classes have not started yet.
Accordingly, all classes, including those classes, will commence on April 19 in the Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts of the Western Province.
The Minister assured that there is no problem in starting schools in other parts of the island. Accordingly, all schools in all parts of the country except the Western Province will be reopened on March 15 for all grades, he said.
