(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Director General of Health Services Thursday confirmed 38 deaths that occurred from May 7th to May 20th due to Covid-19 virus infection. The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 1,089 by now.
The deceased have been identified as residents of Udukinda, Lunugala, Balangoda, Katunayake, Bandurugoda, Kochchikade, Negombo, Thalathuoya, Bandarakoswatta, Borella, Padeniya, Tanorayaya, Polgahawela, Galgamuwa, Siyambalape, Matugama, Ethenawatta, Nawalapitiya, Kurunegala, Yatiyantota, Polgahawela, Belihuloya, Nebada, Kekunugolla, Nikaweratiya, Warakapola, Ampitiya, Marassana, Rajawella, Udispattuwa and Habaraduwa.
Out of the 38 deceased, 24 are over 71 years old. There are 10 persons aged between 61 and 70 years, one person in the age group 51-60 years, a person in the 41-50 years group and two persons in the 31-40 years age group.
The main causes of death are Covid pneumonia and complications associated with chronic diseases, including diabetes, and heart disease.
Of the 38 deceased, 19 were women and the rest were men.
