(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi has instructed Health Ministry officials to take all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus outside the Dematagoda area in Colombo, where several people infected with the highly transmissible Delta variant of Covid-19 virus have been identified.
She gave this advice during the Special Active Performance Review Committee meeting held at the Ministry of Health.
At the committee meeting, the issue of the spread of the new virus variant was discussed at length and it was decided to isolate the area where the five people infected with the new variant was found and obtain samples to test for the delta variant.
It was also decided to track down and test the people who had close contact with the infected. The committee also decided to conduct special tests in other parts of the island where the number of infected people is currently higher, to see if the delta variant is present among them.
State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Major General Specialist Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe and others were present.
