(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – As part of the Government of Pakistan’s relief assistance to the flood affectees of torrential rains, landslides and Covid-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka, H.E. Major General (R) Muhammad Saad Khattak, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka visited Anuradhapura, Kilinochchi, Arugam Bay and distributed dry food items among the affected families.
In Anuradhapura, distribution of food items ceremony was held in Mirisawatiya Temple on 29 June 2021. Ven. Ethalawetunawewa Gnanatilake Thero appreciated the Government of Pakistan and the High Commission’s efforts for the support to the needy families.
In a ceremony held in the Security Force Headquarter, Iranamadu, Kilinochchi, the High Commissioner distributed food items among the flood affectees of that region. The High Commissioner also met Major General Harendra Parakrama Ranasinghe, Commander of the Security Force Headquarters (Kilinochchi) during which matters of mutual interests were discussed.
Apart from that the High Commissioner visited Jaffna on 30 June 2021 and held a meeting with Hon. Angajan Ramanathan, Member of Sri Lankan Parliament. Matters related to agriculture, education and to further strengthen the bilateral relations were discussed.
Moreover, on the invitation of Hon. SMM Muszhaaraff, Member of Sri Lanka Parliament, the High Commissioner visited Arugam Bay to attend a discussion followed by a dinner with intellectuals, social activists and public officials on 1 July 2021. In his address the High Commissioner stressed upon the need to live as citizens of a united country and that minority communities in Sri Lanka have to live peacefully along with the majority. The High Commissioner highlighted that programmes which are being offered and implemented by the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka are for all the people living in Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner assured that Pakistan will always stand with our Sri Lankan brethren in this hour of need and will continue relief assistance and full support in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The High Commissioner also handed over food packets, school bags and sports items to the deserving families in Arugum Bay.
