Iraqi upcoming elections will be different from former one, UN says

(LANKAPUVATH | IRAQ) – In a press conference, UN envoy to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert reaffirmed that the UN electoral assistance mission in Iraq, which will monitor the elections process, is one of the largest worldwide, with five times as many UN personnel as compared to former elections.

She added that technical measures were developed by international experts to ensure results are free from voter fraud.

Moreover, she called upon Iraqi political parties and candidates to refrain from resorting to intimidation, voter suppression, and other illicit activities. She warned against boycotting the elections.
