(LANKAPUVATH | JORDAN) – The energy ministers of Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria agreed that Jordan will supply Lebanon with power through Syria, by the beginning of next year.
During a joint press conference with his Syrian and Lebanese counterparts in Amman, the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, stated that the three parties had concluded the contract for the exchange of electrical energy, and it will meet Lebanon’s needs, adding that it requires solving some technical issues on the networks, especially on the Syrian side, which those in charge confirmed that work is underway, and will be completed by the end of this year, so the network will be ready to launch.
For his part, Syrian Minister of Electricity, Ghassan Al-Zamil, confirmed the commencement of work on maintaining the interconnection line between Syria and Jordan at 5.5 million dollars, pointing out that it will be completed by the end of the year.
This agreement will help to reduce the crisis in Lebanon and the economic collapse which hampered its ability to import vital commodities, most notably fuel, this is directly reflected in the electricity sector.
The Lebanese Energy Minister, Walid Fayyad, stated, during the press conference, that the formula reached is very appropriate for Lebanon, and will strengthen the electricity sector in terms of the cost of producing electricity or transmitting it through Syria, thanking Jordan and Syria for their distinguished position.
