Swiss International Air Lines resumes services to Sri Lanka

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The first inaugural flight of Swiss International Air Lines to Sri Lanka from Zurich arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake this morning (05).

The inaugural flight from Zurich to Colombo, LX 8064 operated by an Airbus 340 touched ground at 7:45 AM and was welcomed by a celebratory water cannon salute upon arrival at BIA followed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance and an inaugural ceremony to welcome the guests.

The plane was carrying 96 foreign tourists and 12 crew members, including the pilot.

Dominic Fergler, Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka, DV Chanaka, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Export Development, Shehan Sumanasekera, Member of the Board of Airports and Aviation Limited and may others were present to welcome the guests.

The airline had previously operated flights to Sri Lanka until 2019, when the Coronavirus epidemic spread to Sri Lanka.

Swiss International Airlines will operate direct weekly flights between Zurich and Colombo every Friday from today (05).
