(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health has planned to implement a special dengue eradication program aimed at preventing the situation from escalating to an epidemic stage in the backdrop of increasing dengue cases.
Accordingly, this program will be implemented from November 08 to 13, 2021 in 59 selected High Risk Medical Officer Divisions in the Western and Eastern Provinces.
During this period, teams consisting of field staff of the Medical Officer of Health offices, the police, the Armed Forces and other volunteers will work to identify mosquito breeding grounds while protecting homes and related areas in these areas and to educate residents about the removal of such areas.
The public will be made aware of possible dengue breeding grounds in and around their homes and advice will be given to maintain an environment free of mosquito breeding.
According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, a total of 15,615 suspected dengue cases have been reported to the from all over the island from January 2021 to up to now. Approximately 46.8 % of dengue cases were reported from the Western Province.
