CID arrests three persons for preparing fake PCR test reports

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested three individuals for preparing fake PCR test reports, the Police Media Spokesman’s Office said.

A suspect has been arrested in a raid carried out by the CID at Thelwatta Junction in the Negombo Police Division on the evening of the 19th for forging PCR test reports using the name of a private hospital and selling to persons going abroad.

The suspect is a 27 year old resident of Minuwangoda.

The equipment used by the suspect was also found in his possession. It was revealed that suspect has charged between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 6,500 for one fake PCR report and Rs. 4,000 of it had been given to the suspect who was preparing the reports.

The suspect had issued nearly 70 forged test reports in this manner and it has been revealed that he was one of the nine brokers in this organized racket.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested in the Brandiyawatte area in Wellampitiya yesterday (21st) afternoon, police said.

Investigators have seized a laptop computer and three mobile phones used by the suspect in the crime. He has submitted about 750 fake PCR reports, allowing people to go abroad, according to the Police.

Also, another 33-year-old suspect who has aided and abetted the crime was arrested in the Nagoda area in Kalutara yesterday.

The first suspect was produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court on the 20th and remanded till tomorrow (23). The other two suspects were produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (22) and remanded till March 09.

The CID is conducting further investigations.
