(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Former Minister Athauda Seneviratne has passed away this morning (31) while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. He was 91 years old at the time of his death.
Born on September 19, 1931, Athauda Seneviratne was a prominent figure in Sri Lankan politics. He was elected to the Morana Gam 12 Pattu Gam Sabha in 1954 and first entered Parliament in 1970 winning the Ruwanwella seat from the Lanka Sama Samaja Party.
He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council for some time and was later elected as the Chief Minister. Athauda Seneviratne representing the Kegalle district in parliament held a number of Ministerial portfolio until 2015.
The last rites of former Minister Athauda Seneviratne, who served as a Member of Parliament as well as a Cabinet Minister, will be announced later.
