(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s new Finance Minister Ali Sabry has resigned after one day in office. He has sent his letter of resignation to the President yesterday(05).
The former Justice Minister was sworn in before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Minister of Finance on Monday replacing Basil Rajapaksa.
In his resignation letter Sabry said he decided to accept the post of Minister of Finance only as an interim measure until a suitable, full-time and sustainable solution could be found.
President’s Counsel Sabry said he stepped down to allow for the appointment of a suitable person to the post to navigate the unprecedented crisis and offered to resign even from his parliamentary post if the President wishes to appoint someone outside the current parliament.
