Sri Lanka – IMF first round talks successful

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The first round of official discussions between Sri Lanka and the International Monetary Fund has been held Monday virtually.

Sri Lanka was represented by Finance Minister Ali Sabry, the Governor of the Central Bank and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance at the discussions.

Neth News reported that this discussion with the representative of the International Monetary Fund lasted for about 45 minutes.

It is further reported that this first round of talks between Sri Lanka and the International Monetary Fund has been successful.

The Sri Lankan delegation is scheduled to leave the country on the 18th to meet with the IMF delegation in Washington, D.C. during the 2022 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

The new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said that discussions will be held also with the representatives of the World Bank.

The talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are aimed at paving a way for a solution to the country’s economic crisis. Even at that time the value of the US dollar had exceeded 327 rupees.
