Immigration and Emigration Department to resume normal services from today

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The issuance of passports suspended by the Department of Immigration and Emigration due to a malfunction in the computer system will resume from today (09).

The Immigration and Emigration Department in a press release said arrangements have been made to recommence the activities of issuing Passports with effect from 09th of May only under Normal Service (except One-day Service) suspended due to an urgent repair in the computer system of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Action will be taken to accept on Monday the 09th of May, only the applications of the applicants who have made an appointment to obtain passport under Normal service on 05, 06 and 09th of May and obtained a number or a seal from the Department visiting to hand over the applications to obtain Passports under Normal service on 05th of May.

Furthermore, the Department said it is essential to make an appointment to hand over applications for Passports with effect from Tuesday, 10th of May.

Technical Staff of the Department expeditiously attends the repairs of the computer system to issue Passports under one-day service at present and action will be taken to accept applications for one-day service as soon as possible, the Department further said.

The Immigration and Emigration Department regretted any inconvenience caused to the Public and informed that the other services provided by the Head Office of the Department, services provided by the Regional Offices and Immigration and Emigration Services at Airports are in progress as usual.
