Education Minister says GCE A/L examination will be postponed to October or November

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha says that arrangements are being made to hold the GCE Advanced Level Examination, which was to be held in August, between October and November.

While participating in a special media briefing held at the Government Information Department Thursday(02), the Minister of Education said the Grade 5 Scholarship examination will also be postponed.

The Minister said that schools are scheduled to be held until December 22 or 23 this year.

The Minister of Education said 100 days of school days have been lost to children in the Western Province in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. In the year 2021 too, the children have lost the days set aside for holding school.

The Minister said that there has been some delay in the year 2022 as well, but the education target is expected to be met by the end of the year by holding schools till December 22 and 23.

The Minister further said that the necessary steps have already been taken for the textbooks and school uniforms required for next year. The Minister also stated that steps will be taken to further strengthen the nutrition programs in schools.

The Minister said that he was thankful for the support extended by various parties to ensure the smooth conduct of the GCE Ordinary Level Examination which concluded yesterday.

Meanwhile, the admission of children to national schools has been temporarily suspended, the Minister said.
