Former Maldivian President rejects MP Harsha’s statement

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed has refuted the statement made by Sri Lanka Opposition Dr. MP Harsha de Silva that the Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud has rejected his proposal to provide assistance to Sri Lanka.

Maldives Speaker, who was appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last month to coordinate foreign aid to Sri Lanka, said a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka and expressed hope that assistance will come through

“MP Harsha de Silva is a long-time friend and we often meet. I always enjoy his company. This press story isn’t accurate though. I believe a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka, and that the assistance will come through,” Nasheed said on Twitter.

However, in response MP Harsha de Silva said he stands by his statement but happy to note Nasheed’s belief that many nations are now eager to help Sri Lanka.

Addressing a function, MP Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday (13) stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud had rejected the request of the former President of the Maldives to provide assistance to Sri Lanka.
