(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Following discussions with Provincial Secretaries of Education, Provincial Directors of Education and Principals of Urban National Schools, the Ministry of Education issued a press release on June 25, 2022 regarding the conduct of schools during the week from 27 June to 01 July 2022
However, as the Ministry of Power and Energy later stated that fuel distribution in the island would not be possible as usual during the week beginning June 27, 2022, a problematic situation has arisen in conducting schools during the week from June 27 to July 1, 2022.
Therefore, it has been decided not to hold schools in the Colombo region of the Western Province and adjoining towns and schools in the main cities of other provinces during the week from 27th June to 1st July 2022 as in the previous week.
Also, if there is no transportation problem for students and teachers during the week from June 27 to July 1, 2022, as was the case with rural schools last week, those schools will be notified to open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Also, it has already been informed that for teachers who do not attend school on these days due to transportation difficulties not to register these absent days as private holidays.
However, if there is any problem regarding the running of schools during that week, the Provincial Secretaries of Education and the Provincial Directors of Education will inform the Governors of the Province and inform them to act accordingly.
If schools are planning to conduct term examinations for the GCE Advanced Level during the week beginning June 27, 2022, they are informed to hold the term examinations two weeks later.
