(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –A special meeting between the Ratnapura – Lanka Gem Dealers and Miners Association and the Minister of Plantation and Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana was held in Ratnapura city recently.
During the meeting, necessary steps were taken to implement a program for systematic delivery of fuel, which is currently distributed nationwide with management, through Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots for the nearly 4000 mines, including the 250 mines using backhoes in Ratnapura district engaged in the gem industry,
Also, Minister Ramesh Pathirana said that he will focus on developing a program to obtain the fuel required for the gem industry from other petrol stations through QR code in collaboration with the Ministry of Power and Energy.
Apart from that, there was also a positive discussion about the existing problems related to the gem industry as well as ways to strengthen the country’s export economy based on the gem industry, which is an industry with a long history.
Members of Parliament Janaka Wakkambura and Waruna Liyanage and officials of the local political authority, National Gem and Jewelry Authority, Sri Lanka Transport Board and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation were also present at the meeting.
