(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government announced that the government has decided to declare Monday, September 19, the day of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II as a special government holiday.
The government has decided to declare 19 of September 2022, the day of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who was the Head of the Commonwealth and reigned as Queen of Ceylon from 1952 to 1972, as a special holiday for Government Offices to extend condolence, the Ministry announced.
This should not cause any hindrance to the delivery of essential services of the government, a circular issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration informed all Secretaries to Ministries, Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries, and Divisional Secretaries.
Last week, the government declared the 19th September as a National Day of Mourning and instructed all government offices to fly the national flag at half-mast up to the day.
