IMF Deputy Managing Director briefed on Sri Lanka’s economic situation

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lankan delegation participating in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group in Washington, DC has met with Mr. Kenji Okamura, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

The delegation headed by the State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe held a productive discussion with the top IMF official on the current economic situation in Sri Lanka.

The delegation held lengthy discussions with IMF officials regarding the next steps required to obtain IMF Executive Board approval for the proposed Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Sri Lanka’s recent economic trends.

The two sides discussed the progress achieved on the economic reforms which Sri Lanka implemented for stabilization of the economy and way forward for the board approval of the IMF on the discussed program, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

International Monetary Fund’s Alternate Executive Director Dr. Chandranath Amarasekara, Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, and Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena participated in the discussions.
