Mastermind of human trafficking to Oman remanded

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The mastermind of human trafficking who brought Sri Lankan young women to Oman on tourist visas and sold them to the country’s millionaire businessmen has been remanded in custody.

Negombo Magistrate has ordered to remand the suspect until the 24th after the officers of the Foreign Employment Bureau’s Special Investigation Unit presented him to the Magistrate.

The 44-year-old suspect was arrested at the arrival terminal of Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport by Immigration Department officials when he arrived in the island from Dubai yesterday morning, according to an order given earlier by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.

It has been revealed the suspect was arrested in the investigations that the unlicensed foreign employment agency in Maradana area run by him and other foreign employment agencies across the country have sent young women to Oman for this smuggling, pretending to be the third secretary of the Presidential Secretariat.
