(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board is pleased to announce the successful re-launch of our Online Payment Gateway, that had been temporarily shut down following a cyber incident detected in the latter part of November, 2022.
Upon the discovery of a cyber incident related to the online payment gateway system, CEB immediately engaged with cybersecurityexperts ofSL-CERT as well as other relevant authorities to assess the situation and comprehend the incident. Our team, with due advice from SL-CERT cybersecurity experts, took immediate measures to duly manage the security compromise. In fact, the already in place internal reconciliation mechanism with partnering Banks had prevented any financial losses to CEB due to this incident. However, our engineers and IT professionals have implemented additional security measures, and carried out a comprehensive revamping and testing process to ensure the integrity and security of our online payment gateway system. With the guidance of SL-CERT cybersecurity experts, we have further ensured the protection of our valuable customers’ personal information and billing data.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused due to this incident and would like to invite and encourage our customers to rejoin with CEB Online Payment System with confidence. We would like to re-assure that CEB has taken all necessary precautions to prevent a similar incident in future.
