(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – State Minister for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that the reports that a stock of medicines imported under the Indian Loan Assistance Program has been detained at the port due to non-payment of taxes are completely false.
He points out that no such detention has been made by the Import and Export Control Department or the Customs, and the government does not levy tax on medicines.
The minister further clarified that the authorities always work to release the medicines as soon as possible and even if there is some deficiency in the documents, they are done on the basis of completing them later or and release the medicines first.
