Court allows detention and interrogation of millionaire who supported the Easter Sunday attack for 90 days

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena yesterday(27) gave permission to the Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division of Police to detain and interrogate a millionaire businessman who is accused of supporting the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, for 90 days.

The millionaire businessman, a leading member of the Thowheed Jamath organization is said to have received weapons training from suicide bomber and the leader of the Islamic organization Mohammed Zahran, at a safe house in Hambantota area and supported the suicide bombing on Easter Sunday in April 2019.

The Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division arrested Kandy resident A. S. Abdullah on the 21st of March for his involvement in and support for extremist activities.

The Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division asked the court to allow them to detain and interrogate the suspect in their division based on the 90-day detention orders obtained from the State Minister of Defense.

Accordingly, the magistrate ordered the Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division to present the suspect to the court on June 22 and adjourned the case until that date.
