(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said that the free distribution of mud fertilizer or TSP fertilizer to farmers for the Yala season has now reached its final stage.
Accordingly, the Department of Agrarian Development requests all the farmers who have not received TSP fertilizer yet to get the required fertilizer before April 10. After April 10th, the TSP fertilizer stock at the agricultural service centers will be called back to the main warehouses.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera this morning, inquired about the progress of distribution of TSP fertilizer and other fertilizers from the two government-owned fertilizer companies and the Department of Agrarian Development.
Accordingly, Lanka Fertilizer Company and Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company have distributed 36,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer to all agricultural service centers. So far, TSP fertilizer have been distributed to farmers in 38 agricultural areas.
By the end of yesterday (April 05), 22,644 metric tons of TSP fertilizer have been distributed free of charge to 677,139 farmers.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said in addition the free mud fertilizer, the government has taken steps to credit 20,000 rupees per hectare and 40,000 rupees per 02 hectares to farmers’ accounts as a non-returnable amount for the purchase of other types of fertilizers or seeds and pesticides in the Yala season.
