(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Presidential Secretariat and Government Ministries have commenced accepting applications for the “Wasath Siriya 2023” Sinhala and Tamil New Year contests.
All applications are available on the official website www.pmd.gov.lk
To enter the “Wasath Siriya” Avurudu Prince/Princess (Open category) competition, applicants must submit a recent colour photograph taken within the last three months. Eligible applicants should be unmarried and aged between 20 and 35 years.
The completed application should be forwarded to [email protected] prior to 3.00 pm on 20.04.2023.
Valuable gold ornaments will be awarded for first, second and third place winners.
The final decision regarding the conditions for the competition rests with the organizing committee and more information can be obtained by contacting Ms. AGM Isanka (Coordinator) on 0702025095.
If you’re an athlete applying for the “Wasath Siriya” marathon, you must include a medical report confirming that you’re physically fit to run a race of over 20 kilometres.
All applications must be submitted to the Security Division of the President’s Office before 12:00 noon on April 21st, 2023 which could also be forwarded through the e-mail address [email protected] or through the WhatsApp number 0710573828.
The first place winner in the men’s marathon will be awarded Rs 75,000, while the second and third place winners will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively.
Participants who finish between fourth and tenth place will receive Rs 10,000 each.
For the women’s marathon, the first place winner will receive Rs 50,000, with the second and third place winners receiving Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.
Participants who finish between fourth and tenth place will receive Rs 7,500 each.
In addition, a standard cycling competition for both men and women is open to all residents of the island, and it is being jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation.
The men’s standard cycling race will be held along the Galle Face Road through Negombo Road, Ja-Ela, Katunayake, Minuwangoda, Wayangoda, Nittambuwa, Kandy Road, Kadawatha and Peliyagoda, culminating at the Galle Face Road.
The women’s standard cycling race will take place along the Galle Road, Galle Face Road, and travel through Pamankada, Piliyandala, Kesbewa, Kottawa, Maharagama, Nugegoda, Tunmulla Junction, Pittala Junction and Lake House, culminating at the Galle Face Road.
Male and female cyclists born between 1973 and 2004 are eligible to compete in the event.
However, standard bikes equipped with 48 and 18 front and rear cogs, as well as handlebar rest bars/hack bars, are not allowed to enter the competition.
Accordingly, the contestants interested in participating in this event should complete the relevant application forms and get it validated by a government authorized doctor regarding their health condition and send it to the organizing committee via the e-mail address [email protected] or via the WhatsApp number 0788429688.
Applications received after 10 a.m. on April 21, 2023 will be rejected, and the selected applicants will be notified by Whatsapp message. There is no application or registration cost.
The Men’s Standard Cycling race offers a prize of Rs. 100,000 for the first-place finisher, Rs. 75,000 for the second-place finisher, and Rs. 50,000 for the third-place finisher.
The fourth-place finisher will receive Rs. 30,000, while the fifth-place finisher will receive Rs. 20,000. Participants who finish between sixth and tenth place will each receive Rs. 9,000, and those who finish between eleventh and fifteenth place will each receive Rs. 5,000.
First place in the women’s race is worth Rs.50,000, second place is worth Rs.40,000, third place is worth Rs.30,000, fourth place is worth Rs.20,000, fifth place is worth Rs.15,000, and sixth through tenth place is worth Rs.9,000 reach.

A squad can consist of eight members with two additional players nominated, resulting in a total of ten players.
The President’s Office will host the “Wasath Siriya” Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration, which will bring together all government institutions, on Saturday, April 22nd from 7 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at Shangri La Green in Colombo. Competition activities have been planned under 03 main categories.
The Musical show ‘Miyasi Concert’ will begin at 7:00 pm at the same venue.
