(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the proposed road map and the timeline to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The Minister said the final draft of the new Electricity Act will be presented to Parliament for approval by end of May.
Minister Wijesekera said the Cabinet also granted approval to establish a reform Secretariat and obtain assistance of development agencies for the process and to conduct a financial and human resource audit.
Accordingly, assistance will be obtained from development agencies such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID and JICA for the restructuring process.
The Minister said it is expected to complete the transition process by October 2023.
