Travel ban imposed against former Prime Minister Mahinda and three others lifted

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today completely lifted the foreign travel ban imposed on former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Member of Parliament Rohitha Abeygunawardena and former Provincial Council Member Kanchana Jayaratne.

They had been banned from traveling abroad in connection with the attack on the Aragalaya activists that took place at Temple Trees and Galle Face on May 09, 2022.

Since they have not been named as suspects, the magistrate has made this order after considering the request made by the President’s Counsel Mr. Shavendra Fernando to lift the ban on their foreign travel.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the order to lift the relevant ban be forwarded to the Comptroller General of Immigration and to release the passports of the group including former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
