(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga instructed the relevant officials at the meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee to look into the projects started by the Urban Development Authority without obtaining the approval of the local authorities and submit a report within two weeks.
The second meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee of Urban Development and Housing was held last week under the chairmanship of the Minister of Urban Development and Housing at the Parliament.
At the meeting members of parliament have pointed out that during the implementation of the development projects various problems have arisen when initiated without obtaining approval from the local government authorities.
Therefore, the Minister made it mandatory to get the approval of the local authorities while implementing the projects.
He also ordered the officials in the Consultative Committee to look into such projects and give him a report within two weeks.
The Minister also noting that the Coastal Conservation Authority has identified 24 places that can attract tourists, told the officials to work together with the Urban Development Authority and the Ministry of Investment Promotion to find investors to improve these places.
Minister Ranatunga also advised the officials of those institutions to identify new tourist spots near the sea coast.
State Ministers of Urban Development and Housing Arundika Fernando and Thenuka Widanagamage, Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing WS Sathyananda, Members of Parliament, Chairman of the institutions under the Ministry, Directors General and other officials participated in the meeting.
