(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –A Gazette Extraordinary has been issued appointing a special investigation unit for the practical implementation of action against sports-related offences under to the Sports Act.
Appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, the investigation unit is headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) W.A. Jayanath Jayasinghe.
The investigation unit will be operative for a period of three years with effect from February 15, 2023.
It was appointed pursuant to Section 21 of the Prevention of Offences relating to Sports Act, No. 24 of 2019 for the practical execution of the legal provisions of this legislation.
