(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project has commenced the rehabilitation of 7 tanks in Vavuniya District. The official inauguration is scheduled to take place at the Asikulam, Illuppaikulam tank site on June 27, 2024.
The ceremony will be graced by the presence of Honorable State Minister of Rural Economy, K. Kader Mastan, who will attend as the chief guest. Project Director Gayan Mallawatissa will also participate in this significant event.
Supported by a financial loan from the International Fund for Agrarian Development, the Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project is a six-year initiative under the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries. A total of 183 tanks across Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Mannar, Kurunegala, Puttalam, and Matale districts are slated for rehabilitation as part of this project.
The main objective of the project is to empower smallholder farmers in combating climate change, alleviating poverty, and enhancing food security within the project regions.
