(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – It is well-known that even a king coconut is sold in India through the QR. However, taking Sri Lanka’s digitalisation to grassroot level has been documented among the consecutively failed collective of projects over the years.
The culprit behind Sri Lanka’s unsuccessful digitalisation is the distance between the lawmakers on digitalisation and people at the grassroot level as well as the absence of a long term plan.
As a solution for this, Digital Strategy 2030 was curated following President Ranil Wickremesinghe coming into power, under the purview of State Minister of Technology, Kanaka Herath by the Ministry of Technology.
Digitalisation Strategy 2030 mainly throws light on empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) all over the island.
Accordingly, the SME Empowerment Programme commenced on 22 June and has been operating successfully island wide.
This SME Empowerment programme is conducted by the youth groups from the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) through knowledge sharing programmes on digital tools such as
● QR code usage for payments
● E- Commerce for businesses
● Social media usage for businesses
covering all the markets and shops in the cities in the Kegalle District.
The closing ceremony of this programme at the Kegalle District is to take place on 26 July with the participation of the His Excellency President Ranil Wickramasinghe at the premises of Iparani Gama.
