SLAF OPENS STATE-OF-THE-ART PRE-SCHOOL AND DAY CARE CENTRE AT RATMALANA, OFFERING QUALITY EDUCATION AND CARE FOR ALL

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Air Force reached a new milestone in early childhood education with the ceremonial opening of the newly constructed Pre-School and Day Care Centre at SLAF Base Ratmalana on 30 December 2024.

The ceremonial inauguration was graced by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, who unveiled the commemorative plaque, accompanied by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa. The event commenced with religious observances and was attended by the Air Force Board of Management, the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, senior officers, the Principal and teachers of the pre-school, as well as parents and children.

The state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide a nurturing environment for early childhood development, featuring a Principal’s Office, a Teachers’ Room, four spacious classrooms with a seating capacity for 100 children and an auditorium capable of accommodating 200 individuals. The Day Care Centre is equipped to host 20 children, catering to the needs of working parents. In a significant move to raise inclusivity, the facility is open to children of both SLAF personnel and the general public. The Technical Advisor to SLAF Pre-Schools, Dr. Thushari Koralage, expressed her excitement about the new facility, highlighting its potential to positively impact the community. “This Pre-School and Day Care Centre represents a significant advancement in providing high-quality, accessible early childhood education. It offers an ideal learning environment, not just for children of SLAF personnel, but also for children from the wider community who can now benefit from these outstanding facilities,” she said. Adding to its inclusive design, the Pre-School features a shrine representing all religions, symbolizing unity and harmony.

The newly constructed Pre-School and Day Care Centre is not merely a facility but a beacon of hope for parents seeking quality education and care for their children. By opening its doors to the broader community, SLAF strives to contribute to national development and the betterment of future generations.
