(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – President Maithripala Sirisena says that he is fully committed to work for the progress of the people regardless of nationality, religion, party or colour, as the leader of all the people in the country.
The President stated this addressing a meeting held in Pottuvil yesterday (05), which was organized to ensure the victory of the candidates in Ampara representing SLFP in the local election.
President Sirisena addressing the people of Pottuvil stated that he specially worked on the programme for building national peace and reconciliation in the past three years, which was a matter that wasn’t accomplished in the post war era.
The People have not forgotten the misdeeds of the previous regime and they do not believe the tales narrated by former rulers, said the President, inviting all the people to join hands with the SLFP in order to build a prosperous nation.
Developing Pottuvil as a tourist destination will be conducted in the future said President Sirisena adding that it is expected to uplift the living conditions by attracting more tourists.
Thus the problem regarding water faced by people operating in agriculture is expected to be solved by starting the “Hada Oya” water and irrigation project soon said President Sirisena.
The President stated that the necessity of having a playground prevails among the youth and necessary steps will be taken to build a stadium as well as to solve the problems with regard to setting up of a regional education office.
He said that immediate steps will be taken to solve the problem of unemployed graduates in the East and that there is no necessity for them to go behind the false promises of certain political parties.
