(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The inauguration ceremony of the annual session of “Architect 2018” was held at BMICH under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.
The Architect 2018 (A’18) event is organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA).
In line with the A’18 ceremony, an architectural exhibition has also been organised. It will be held until February 25.
Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka participating in the event as the Guest of Honour, said that Sri Lanka is enriched with a unparalleled architectural history.
“When considering the historic architectural creations, our country is home to a number of marvellous architectural creations. This is clearly visible when one looks at the archaeological wonders of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya,” Minister Ranawaka said.
The Minister further said that Sri Lanka is on the way of becoming a developed nation. He added that within the next few years, the country will require 50,000 housing units in Colombo and the suburbs.
“It has been estimated that there will be a huge demand for 50,000 housing units in a few years. Moreover, there will be a huge demand for office spaces in and around Colombo,” he said.
