(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Internationally acclaimed film producer and film director Dr. Lester James Peries’s 99th birthdays fall on yesterday (05) and President Maithripala Sirisena visited his residence in Thimbirigasyaya to extend his wishes to the maestro.
The President looked into his well-being and also engaged in a cordial discussion with him.
Also, President Sirisena joined with Dr. Lester James Peries and Mrs. Sumithra Peries, to cut the cake to celebrate his birthday.
Recently, appreciating the great service rendered by the film producer and film director Dr. Lester James Peries, to glorify the Sri Lankan Cinema in international level, took the cabinet approval in order to provide a special monthly allowance to him to cover his medical and other expenses.
The documents and the first cheque related to this special monthly allowance which was offered only to such a legendary star of outstanding service was offered to Dr. Lester James Peiris by President Sirisena.
Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Dr.Somaratne Dissanayake,Renuka Balasooriya and other members were present in this event.
